Our History

College Women’s Club was founded in 1915 by a group of college women graduates in Sandusky, and has evolved into a local non-profit organization whose mission is to:

Unite graduates of universities and colleges

Promote educational opportunities for women

Provide social interaction for its membership

Each year scholarships are awarded to area women for undergraduate or graduate education.  Currently there are nearly 160 members in the club from the Sandusky/Erie County area.

Booklet Cover Design History

The arch used as the motif on the cover of the College Women’s Club of Sandusky annual calendar and roster represents the gate into the quadrangle of New College, Oxford, England.  It is the seventh college, founded in 1368.  Its style and design inspired the architecture used at Oxford and has been widely copied in succeeding centuries.

The original drawing of this motif was done in 1936 by former member, Mrs. DeWitt Owen, and has been used on the cover of each calendar and roster since that time.  The motif has become a unique and cherished symbol of this organization.
